The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2: Compact and Powerful

Blackmagic Design has announced the release of the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2, an upgraded version of its popular Micro Studio Camera. The new model features a 4K digital film sensor with 13 stops of dynamic range and dual native ISO up to 25,600, providing outstanding low-light performance.

The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 retains the compact design of its predecessor, making it ideal for situations where space is limited. It includes the popular MFT lens mount and offers high-quality 4K image capture and cinematic color science. The camera supports 12G-SDI for HD and Ultra HD operation up to 2160p60, and it also has a new USB-C expansion port for recording Blackmagic RAW to external disks and network control via Ethernet adapters.

One of the standout features of the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 is its ability to go beyond broadcast quality. It offers log gamma, allowing users to create cinematic color corrected looks directly in the camera. With its 4K sensor and 13 stops of dynamic range, the camera delivers rich blacks and vibrant whites, perfect for color correction.

The camera features a rugged magnesium alloy body that is incredibly durable, yet small enough to be placed virtually anywhere. It comes with a range of buttons on the front for easy access to settings and recording triggers.

The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 is compatible with a wide range of affordable photographic lenses, thanks to its popular MFT lens mount. This allows users to adjust the camera’s positioning without physically accessing it, making it an ideal choice for hard-to-reach areas.

The camera offers various connectivity options, including HDMI and 12G-SDI, allowing it to be used with switchers such as ATEM Mini and ATEM Constellation. It also features a high-speed USB-C expansion port, enabling users to record to external disks, control the camera over a network, or connect a range of accessories.

The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 offers multiple power options, including a 12V DC locking power connector, support for LP-E6 compatible batteries, and the ability to connect to V-lock batteries for extended power usage.

According to Grant Petty, the CEO of Blackmagic Design, the upgraded Micro Studio Camera 4K is designed to meet the demands of customers who loved the original model. He believes that the compact design, along with the new features like 12G-SDI and 4K HDMI connections, an improved sensor, and Blackmagic RAW recording, will enable users to create even more compelling content from various camera angles.

The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 will be available in October for $995 from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.
