The trailer for Season 2 of Quantum Leap is finally out, and it promises thrilling time-travel adventures for its protagonist, Dr. Ben Song. While the trailer doesn’t reveal what happened to Ben after the cliffhanger season 1 finale, it does show glimpses of where and when he will be leaping. Viewers can expect to see him in iconic locations such as Area 51, the first day of the LA Riots, and even in Egypt, where an episode was filmed on location in Cairo.
One surprising moment in the trailer is when Ben confesses to someone that he is a time traveler. This raises questions about the identity of this new character and their connection to the top-secret Quantum Leap project. The answer comes in the form of Hannah Carson, played by new series regular Eliza Taylor. Hannah is described as a complex woman who is more than she appears to be.
Alongside Taylor, Peter Gadiot joins the cast as US Army Officer Tom Westfall. With Ben having saved his fiancée, Addison Augustine, in the previous season, the focus of the new season will return to the episodic nature of the original series. Showrunner Martin Gero explains that they want to provide more opportunities for the talented cast to shine, with the serialized elements now serving the emotional aspects of the story instead of heavy plotlines.
The trailer also hints at the challenge of reuniting Ben with his team after he was separated from them in the finale of the previous season. The specifics of how Addison, Ian Wright, Jenn Chou, and Magic Williams will bring him back remain unknown.
Season 2 of Quantum Leap will kick off with a grand episode set in 1970s Russia, where Ben leaps into a military transport mission. This highly anticipated episode boasts appearances by Melissa Roxburgh, P.J. Byrne, and Aaron Abrams and has been described as a “43-minute movie” by executive producer Chris Grismer.
Fans can catch the second season of Quantum Leap when it returns on October 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
