In Monster Hunter Now, weapons are essential tools for your arsenal. This mobile version of the popular series offers a more streamlined selection of weapons, with six choices available at launch. However, these weapons are locked behind story quest progression or Hunter Rank progress, adding a sense of accomplishment as you unlock new weapon types.
At launch, the weapons available in Monster Hunter Now are Sword and Shield, Great Sword, Bow, Hammer, Light Bowgun, and Long Sword. While this may seem limited, developers Niantic and Capcom have confirmed that additional weapon types will be introduced through a “season system,” providing fans of the main series with even more options to look forward to.
To unlock new weapon types in Monster Hunter Now, you must progress through the main story quest. Initially, you will only have access to the Sword and Shield, but as you reach Chapter 2, you will unlock the Great Sword. Shortly after, you will gain access to the remaining roster of weapons.
Unlocking the Great Sword requires completing the first stage of “Chapter 2: Shimmering Swamp” in the main story. To unlock the Bow, Hammer, Light Bowgun, and Long Sword, you need to reach Hunter Rank 15. These milestones are not too far into your Monster Hunter Now journey, typically taking a few hours of playtime. However, the progression may be slower if you focus on exploring different areas.
Collecting resources is an important aspect of Monster Hunter Now, and it may be limited if you spend most of your time in a single location. To complete large monster steps quickly, it is advisable to use paintballs to track their movements effectively.
