Blackmagic Design has recently announced its all-new 6K Full Frame Pocket Cinema Camera. This camera features a full-frame sensor and is the first from Blackmagic Design to utilize an L-Mount. With an internal hardware redesign, this camera combines the original Pocket Cinema body design with new and improved features.
The highlight of the camera is its full-frame 6K sensor, which offers a stated 13 stops of dynamic range and dual native ISO up to 25,600. This allows for excellent image quality and low-light performance. Instead of using SD cards for recording, the camera now supports CFexpress cards, which are faster and more durable.
The larger 6K sensor opens up new creative possibilities for filmmakers. It allows for shooting in true 6:5 anamorphic without cropping, creating detailed and high-resolution widescreen cinematic images. Additionally, the camera can shoot in various resolutions and frame rates, from HD up to DCI 4K and 6K.
The camera also features a large, HDR 1500 nits bright 5-inch HDR touchscreen. On-screen overlays provide essential information and tools for monitoring and adjusting shots. The screen can be tilted up to 180 degrees for easy monitoring from any position.
Another notable upgrade is the use of CFexpress cards for recording and a USB-C expansion port for recording directly to external media disks or SSDs. CFexpress cards are more durable and faster, making them ideal for capturing high-resolution Blackmagic RAW files.
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K is now available for $2,595, and it is compatible with accessories designed for the previous model. This camera is expected to be popular among filmmakers looking for a portable and versatile cinema camera with a full-frame sensor.
